Housing
Links to where you can buy some suitable cages for syrians.
(These links are to give an example of some cage makes that are suitable and you may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere like ebay)
- Hamster Heaven - Imac Fantasy - Duna Multy - Zoozone - Savic Cambridge - Savic Rody - Mickey Max (with wire level removed) - Criceti 15 | Syrian hamsters are completely solitary animals and must be housed one to a cage or else they will fight.
Cages such as the ovo, rotastak and crittertail are made to look good to the eye and appeal to children but they are not suitable for hamsters. They do not offer sufficient floor space or ventilation and are not big enough to fit in the right sized wheel for a syrian. Always buy the biggest cage for your hamster, never go for a starter cage, as you will find they outgrow them very quickly especially with cages that have tubes and don’t get enough living space. The best cages I recommend are: the gabber rex, the gabber lux, the savic rody, the rydon mill, the cambridge, the duna fun, the imac fantasy, the mickey max (with wire level removed) and the hamster heaven. |
Houses
Most houses designed for syrians I tend to find are way too small for my hamsters when they grow into adult size so most of mine have open nests or they make their nest in things like cardboard boxes or under their log bridges or shelves.
